How Attendance is Calculated
Live Attendance
Live attendance combines engagement data for when a user joins and leaves a classroom with the class scheduler for calculation. A valid class session is established when instructors are logged into the classroom at the scheduled time and for a length of time above the established session ratio. Learner attendance is calculated based on how long the learner is logged into the classroom at or above the attendance ratio.
Example:
- Scheduled class time: 10:00-11:00 am (60 minutes)
- Attendance ratio: 60%
- Session ratio: 50%
- An instructor joins the classroom at 9:55 am and leaves at 10:50 am, so the class time is 50 minutes.
- 50 min > 60min x 60% = a valid Session
- The 5 minutes the instructor was in the classroom before the scheduled class time is not counted.
- Learner A joins the class at 10:10 am and leaves at 11:00 am, so attendance is 50 minutes.
- 50 min > 50 min x 50% = attendance credit
- Learner B joins the class at 10:10 am and leaves at 10:30 am, so attendance is 20 minutes.
- 20 min < 50 min x 50% = no attendance credit
Offline Attendance
Offline or Playback Room Attendance is based on the length of the recording, not the scheduled live class.
- Scheduled class time: 10:00-11:00 am (60 minutes)
- Session ratio: 50%
- An instructor joins the classroom at 9:55 am, starts the recording at 10:00 am, and ends the class at 10:50 am, so the class recording is50minutes.
- Learner A joins the Playback Room and watches the entire recording, so attendance is 50 minutes.
- 50 min > 50 min x 50% = attendance credit
- Learner B joins the Playback Room, watches 20 min of the recording, and then leaves, so attendance is 20 minutes.
- 20 min < 50 min x 50% = no attendance credit
