Engageli has audio settings for whole-class discussions and small-group activities at tables. This guide explains its audio modes: Room Mode and Table Mode.
Engageli has two main audio modes controlled by the instructor: Room Mode and Table Mode.
Room Mode
This is typically the default when you enter your Engageli classroom. This means that as a learner or TA, you will hear the audio feeds from everyone in the classroom, regardless of where they are seated. You will only have a view of the Class Gallery when the Classroom Audio is in Room Mode. Click the Class Gallery tab at the of the screen to see everyone in the classroom.
Table Mode
When the instructor enables Table Mode, you will hear only your tablemates, and anyone on the podium. The tablemates pane will open automatically on the right side when table mode or a table activity is enabled. learners will see only their tablemates in Table Mode. They will not have a view of the Class Gallery, but they can still address the entire class when needed.
To address the entire class while the audio is in Table Mode, click the Raise Hand button at the bottom of the screen to go to the podium.
Breakout Tables
Breakout Tables allow instructors to create dedicated spaces for focused, small-group discussions where learners can only communicate with their tablemates.
- When you're at a breakout table, you won't be able to hear the instructor or anyone speaking from the podium.
- The Raise Hand button is disabled while you're at a breakout table, and you won't be able to join a panel from there either.
- Any changes the instructor makes to table arrangements—like randomizing or splitting by poll—won’t affect breakout tables. You'll stay at your breakout table unless you choose to leave.
- You can join or leave a breakout table whenever you'd like, unless the instructor locks all tables. In that case, you won’t be able to move until the lock is removed.
If you are at a breakout table, you will see a notification at the top of the screen. Breakout tables appear striped in the tables tab and the Raise Hand button is disabled. See below.
