Ensure a smooth Engageli experience by granting the necessary permissions for your microphone, camera, and screen sharing. This guide walks you through the steps to enable your device and browser permissions.
Setting up Permissions
The first time you enter a classroom, you will be required to allow permissions at a browser level and sometimes at a system level.
Mac & Chrome
- Browser Permissions
- Click "Allow". If you don’t see the "Allow" button, click the icon on the left side of the URL address bar.
- You will see a pop-up on the left asking you to grant Camera access to Engageli. Click Allow.
- Next, you will see a pop-up on the left asking you to grant Microphone access to Engageli. Click Allow.
- If you accidentally clicked “Block” in either of the pop-ups, click the icon on the left side of the URL address bar.
- Make sure that the settings for the Camera and Microphone are both set to On/Allow.
2. System Permissions
If your system has not enabled browser access to your camera and microphone, you will be prompted to open System Preferences or (a drop-down notification will appear on the right of your URL bar).
- Click System Settings (
) or the Apple logo in the top left corner of the screen to access the System Settings.
- Select Security & Privacy.
- Click the lock icon at the bottom of the window to make changes.
- Enter your password to unlock.
- Select Camera from the menu on the left.
- Check the box next to Google Chrome/Microsoft Edge (if unchecked).
- Select “Later” when prompted to quit & reopen Microsoft Edge.
- Select Microphone from the menu on the left.
- Check the box next to Google Chrome/Microsoft Edge (if unchecked).
- Select “Later” when prompted to quit & reopen Microsoft Edge.
- Select Screen Recordings from the menu on the left.
- Check the box next to Google Chrome/Microsoft Edge (if unchecked).
- Select Quit & Reopen to apply changes.
- Go back to your Engageli classroom.
Note: If you don’t see the Quit & Reopen pop-up, you’ll need to manually quit the browser (Cmd +Q), and then reopen it.
You will now be in the lobby area of your classroom, where you can edit your camera and microphone, add a background and test your system, before joining the classroom.
Windows & Chrome
1. Browser Permissions
- Click "Allow". If you don’t see the "Allow" button, click the icon on the left side of the URL address bar.
- You will see a pop-up on the left asking you to grant Camera access to Engageli. Click Allow.
- Next, you will see a pop-up on the left asking you to grant Microphone access to Engageli. Click Allow.
- If you accidentally clicked “Block” in either of the pop-ups, click the lock icon on the left side of the URL address bar.
- Make sure that the settings for Camera and Microphone are both set to On/Allow.
System Permissions
If your system has not enabled browser access to your camera and microphone, you will see a message directing you to update your system settings.
- Click the Search bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Search for Privacy.
- In the Settings, click Camera (under App permissions on the left).
- Switch Camera access On.
- Scroll down and make sure “Let desktop apps access your camera” is also switched On.
- Click Microphone (under App permissions on the left).
- Switch Microphone access On.
- Scroll down and make sure “Let desktop apps access your microphone” is also switched On.
- Close the settings and go back to the Engageli login screen.
- Refresh the page.
You will now be in the lobby area of your classroom, where you can edit your camera and microphone, add a background and test your system, before joining the classroom.
