You can easily engage your audience more effectively using your mouse as a laser pointer while sharing your screen. Highlight specific content on your screen, whether you’re presenting in PowerPoint, Google Slides, or directly from a browser tab. Note: The following instructions are for using an external mouse, not a keyboard trackpad.
PowerPoint
MacOS

Open your PowerPoint presentation.
- Set up your presentation for easy screen sharing on Engageli.
- First, click Set Up Slide Show under the Slide Show tab.
- Under Show type, select Browsed by an individual (window), and click OK.

On the left, click Play from Start or Play from Current Slide.

Right-click on the presentation.

Select Pointer Options.

Select Laser Pointer.

When you're ready, share your screen on Engageli.
- Navigate back to your presentation and use the mouse to point to content on the slide that you want to highlight or draw attention to.
Pro Tip!
On your presentation, you can press the Option key and then click and drag the mouse to point to specific content on the slide. Click here for more information and tips.
Windows

Open your PowerPoint presentation.
- Set up your presentation for easy screen sharing on Engageli.
- First, click Set Up Slide Show under the Slide Show tab.
- Under Show type, select Browsed by an individual (window), and click OK.

On the left, click Play from Start or Play from Current Slide.
- Press and hold the Ctrl key, then click and drag the mouse to use it as a laser pointer.

When you're ready, share your screen in Engageli.
- Navigate back to your presentation and press and hold the Ctrl key while using the mouse to point to content on the slide that you want to highlight or draw attention to.
Pro Tip!
If you want your audience to see the laser pointer but not your mouse pointer, press and hold Ctrl before you move your mouse to keep the mouse pointer hidden. Click here for more information and tips.
Google Slides
- Open Your Google Slides file.
- In the upper right corner, click Slideshow and Presenter view.
- Move the Presenter view window to the background.
- On the presentation, hover over the three dots in the bottom left corner, and click to open the options menu.
- Select Turn on the laser pointer.
- When you're ready, share your screen on Engageli.
- Select your Google Slides window or tab.
- Use your mouse to point to content on the slide that you want to highlight or draw attention to.
To turn off the laser point, click the options menu (three dots) again and select Turn off the laser pointer.
Browser Tabs
You can add an extension to your Google Chrome browser to use your mouse as a laser pointer on any Chrome tab.
To add the extension:
- Open Google Chrome.
- Go to the Chrome Web Store.
- In the search bar, enter AnyTab Laser Pointer.
- Click Add to Chrome.
- Click Add extension.
- Click the Extensions icon to the right of the URL bar to turn your mouse pointer into a laser pointer.
Note: We have not conducted a thorough investigation of the AnyTab Laser Pointer. Any issues arising from its use are solely the user's responsibility. Use it at your own risk.

Pin the extension to the browser URL bar for quick access.
To use the browser laser pointer on Engageli:
- Log into your Engageli classroom.
- Open the browser tab that you want to share.
- Click the AnyTab Laser Pointer extension and click Enable.
- When you're ready, share your screen on Engageli.
- Select the browser tab.
- On the browser tab you're sharing, open the AnyTab Laser Pointer extension and click Enable.
- Use your mouse to point to content on the slide that you want to highlight or draw attention to.
