This article will cover the "Common Configuration" tab of "Class Details". This page allows users to control basic settings for the classroom. These options can be enabled or disabled by toggling their corresponding checkbox. Below is a screenshot of an example classroom's "Common Configuration" tab.
Any options that are greyed out are ones that have been locked by a Super Admin. To toggle the status on these, a Super Admin would need to be involved.
Once you are done making any changes, be sure to click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page.
We'll now review each setting:
- Turn off cameras of learners upon login - Learners entering the class will have their webcams initially turned off. This setting does not block their webcam, so they are free to turn them back once they are settled in.
- Mute learners upon login - Learners entering the class will have their microphones automatically muted. This setting does not block their microphone, so they are free to unmute themselves once they are settled in.
- Force Learners to be always in low bandwidth mode - Learners will be forced into Low Bandwidth mode and no option to change to Medium or High. This is useful if you know you'll be working with users who tend to have low-performance computers or slow internet.
- Enable automatic bandwidth adjustment - When users are in the classroom, they have the option to toggle automatic bandwidth mode adjustment. This setting will determine whether that option is defaulted to on or off. This setting does not restrict whether users can utilize automatic bandwidth adjustment, it simply determines default state of the option for users joining the classroom.
- Enable aggressive automatic bandwidth adjustment - As it states, this introduces a very aggressive algorithm for determining if a user should be put into Low Bandwidth Mode and may put a user into Low Bandwidth Mode even if they do not have the automatic bandwidth mode adjustment option turned on. We do not typically recommend enabling this.
- Enable clickable links in chat - When a user sends a chat message that includes a URL (e.g. https://support.engageli.com/hc/en-us), Engageli will convert the URL into a link that can be clicked. Disabling this feature will keep the URL as plain text.
- Default to TCP only mode - This setting switches audio and video traffic to route through TCP instead of UDP. For more information regarding this setting and use cases please contact the Support team.
- Default compatibility (RLM) mode - Automatically enables compatibility mode for anyone who joins the class. For more information regarding this setting and use cases please contact the Support team.
- Disable guest links in classroom - Removes the guest link feature from the classroom. Existing guest links will be permanently invalidated. If guest links are subsequently enabled, new ones will be generated.
- Keep guest email - Allows guest users to join the classroom under a recently-used guest account if they type in the same Name that was previously used. This feature should only be used in niche use cases; speak with Support if you are considering enabling this.
- Disallow learners from viewing identifiable reactions - When learners submit reactions, an icon of the reaction appears alongside their webcam portrait for several seconds, allowing other learners to see that they submitted the reaction. Disallowing this feature will remove that feature: learners can still see reactions, but won't know who it came from.
- Disable Q&A - Removes the Q&A feature from the classroom. Existing Q&A entries will be preserved and accessible if the feature is re-enabled.
- Allow learners to share files - Enabling this will allow learners to upload files to the the class chat.
- Automatically block inappropriate chat and Q&A - Enables a filter for Chat and Q&A. Attempts to submit inappropriate chat messages or Q&A entries will be rejected by our server and the user will receive an relevant error message.
- Make recordings private by default - If enabled, recordings of live class sessions will be set to private, by default. Private recordings are hidden from Learners.
- Interaction controls - Introduces various Learner restrictions to the classroom. This feature is generally used with K12 schools, where learners often need to be supervised. To learn more about this setting, please see the following page: Understanding Interaction Controls
- Allow use of emoji reactions - Allows participants to use emoji reactions.
- Allow use of sound reactions - Allows participants to use sound reactions.
- Track attendance by Occurrence ID - If this classroom was created via LTI integration, enabling this feature option allows for attendance tracking by lineitem ID.
- Enable playback AI assistant - This enables an AI assistant in the Playback Room's chat that can be used to answer general questions.
- Timezone - This sets the timezone associated with the class. Any entries added to the classroom's "Schedule" area will be based off this timezone.
