Instructors and TAs can manage disruptive behavior with ease by blocking engagement tools. This restriction limits the learner’s ability to interact with the class while maintaining their access to essential communication with instructors and staff.
How to Block a Learner's Engagement Tools
- Locate the learner's video in the Class Gallery.
- Click the three-dot menu in the middle of their video.
- Select Block engagement tools from the menu.
Effects of Blocking Engagement Tools
When a learner’s engagement tools are blocked:
- Screen sharing and reactions are removed from the learner's interface.
- The learner can only send chat messages to the instructor and Staff channels.
- All users see the “Engagement Tools Blocked” label on the learner’s video (visible to only instructors and TAs).
- The hand raise button is disabled.
- The Q&A is removed from the learner's interface.
- The user’s microphone is blocked, preventing the learner from speaking.
- The annotation tools are removed from both class-wide and table whiteboards.
How to Unblock Engagement Tools
If needed, engagement tools can be restored at any time:
- Click the learner's video in the Class Gallery.
- Select Unblock engagement tools from the menu.
Individualized Education Plans
The "Block Engagement Tools" feature supports (Individualized Education Program (IEP) plans by providing targeted interventions for learners who need help with focus, self-regulation, or behavior management. It allows instructors to minimize distractions, scaffold engagement, and maintain an inclusive environment.
Important Notes:
- TAs can block a learner’s engagement tools. Instructors and TAs cannot block another TA’s engagement tools.
- The "Engagement Tools Blocked" label is visible only to instructors and TAs, ensuring that the restriction remains discreet from other learners.
