Polls
This article will cover the "Polls" tab, which each classroom will have. This tab can be accessed via "Admin Portal" > "Classes" > select your class from either the "Active Classes" or "Archived Classes" sections > "Polls". We've provided a screenshot below of an example classroom's "Polls" tab:
While this tab may seem similar to the "Poll" sub-tab found under the classroom's "Analytics" tab, it is not the same page. The "Analytics" > "Poll" sub-tab page provides general poll participation information; this "Polls" page provides more granular information, such as:
- The type of poll that was ran (e.g. single answer, multiple answer, etc)
- Details of the poll question and its corresponding answer options
- The specific answer that each participant provided
At the top of this page are filters that you can use to adjust what appears on this page. We'll describe these filters below:
- Start Date - Set the start date range for the filter. Only polls ran after this date will appear.
- End Date - Set the end date range for the filter. Only polls ran before this date will appear.
- Filter by Class Type - You can use the options in this section to filter participation data by live participation, playback room participation, or both. Keep in mind, this filter does not affect whether a poll appears in search results--that is determined by the date filters. Instead, this impacts the count displayed for each poll's various participation values. We'll explain the specifics of the two options seen here:
- Live - This will filter the participation count by users who answered the poll during the live session.
- Playback - This will filter the participation count by users who answered the poll from the Playback Room. That is, polls that were answered by users as they watched the session recording.
The bottom portion of this page consists of a list of cards. Each card corresponds to a poll that was ran within the search date range and will include the details of that poll. We'll cover the details of the information provided within each card below:
- Timestamp - The date and time the poll was ran will appear at the top-left of the card.
- Poll Type - The type of poll that was ran will appear at the top-right of the card. Below is a list of the possible types you'll see:
- Single Choice - QR/Action Tag-based multiple choice with the ability select only one option as the answer.
- Multiple Choice - QR/Action Tag-based multiple choice with the ability to select multiple options as the answer.
- Text - QR/Action Tag-based word poll, where the user would type in their answer.
- Single Choice Quick Poll - Quickpoll-based multiple choice with the ability select only one option as the answer.
- Multiple Choice Quick Poll - Quickpoll-based multiple choice with the ability to select multiple options as the answer.
- Word Cloud Quick Poll - Quickpoll-based word poll, where the user would type in their answer.
- Image - On the left side of the card, an image of what the poll would look like for class participants will appear. This image typically includes details of the poll, such as the poll question and answer options. You can click on the image to view a larger version of it.
- Poll Results - A chart of the poll answers will appear on the right side of the card. For multiple choice polls, we'll display a pie chart. For text polls, we'll display a word cloud of all the answers. You can hover your mouse over the chart's elements to see a count of the number of users who submitted the corresponding answer.
- Instructor's Answers - This field shows the answer(s) the Instructor provided as the correct answer. This field will not appear for text/word cloud polls.
- Participants - This field shows the number of users who answered the poll. This value will be calculated based on the "Filter by Class Type" options selected.
- Matched Instructor's Answers - This shows the number of users whose answers matched the Instructor's answer(s). This value will be calculated based on the "Filter by Class Type" options selected. This field will not appear for text/word cloud polls.
- Roster Participants - This shows the number of users on the class roster. In short, it's the number of users who could have participated in the poll.
- Details - This button will open the "Participant Answers" page for the corresponding poll, where you can see what each participant submitted as their answer. We'll provide more details about this page in the following section.
Note: If this button is disabled when both the "Live" and "Playback" class type filters are enabled, it means nobody answered the poll, at all. This often occurs if the Instructor activated the wrong poll and cancels it before anybody has a chance to submit an answer.
Participant Answers
The "Participant Answers" (also referred to as the "Poll Details") page is what appears when clicking a poll card's "Details" button. This page will show the answers that each participant submitted for the poll. Below is a screenshot of sample poll's "Participant Answers" page:
At the top of this page, you'll find a few options, which we'll cover below:
- Filter by Participant - By default, only Learners will appear in the table of details. However, you can include "Registered Staff" and "Guest" participants clicking either or both of the corresponding checkboxes.
- Export to CSV - This will export the table of details to a CSV file. The CSV will contain the same information as the table seen here does, but will also include timestamps of when the users selected or changed their answers.
The bottom portion of this page contains a table of each participant's poll answer and other related details. We'll describe each column of the table:
- Name - The name of the participant.
- Email - The email address associated with the participant.
- Role - The participant's role. By default, we'll only show activity from Learners, but the filters at the top of the page can be toggled include staff and guest users.
- Last answer (live) - The last answer submitted by the user during the live session. If the user did not answer during the live session, we'll display an "X".
- Last answer (playback) - The last answer submitted by the user as they watched the recorded session via the Playback Room. If the user did not not submit their poll answer within the Playback Room environment, we'll display an "X".
- Answer # - You'll see a series of "Answer 1", "Answer 2", etc., columns for the remainder of the table. These columns display the user's previously submitted answers before arriving at their final response. Each column reflects an earlier answer that was later revised. If the previous answer was submitted within the Playback Room, the value will have the label "(playback)" below it, to differentiate between live classroom and playback room activity.
Note: Any users who did not answer the poll from either the live session or Playback Room (i.e. didn't participate in the poll, at all) will not appear on the poll's "Participant Answers" table.
