New Features
Breakout Tables – Enhance Small-Group Discussions
Breakout tables allow instructors to designate tables where participants can only communicate with their tablemates, creating focused, small-group discussions. Learners at breakout tables will not hear the instructor or podium speakers unless they move to a non-breakout table. Note: Participants at breakout tables are not moved during random table arrangements and split-by-poll table arrangements.
- Distraction-Free Collaboration – Participants can engage in meaningful discussions without external audio.
- Controlled Participation – The raise-hand button is disabled, and participants cannot be placed on panels.
To designate breakout tables:
- Switch to Table Mode audio in the live classroom.
- The Tables tab will automatically open to display the individual tables.
- Hover over the upper-left corner of the table.
- Click the diamond icon to enable Breakout Table mode for that table.
- To stop, click Cancel breakouts.
Pointer Tool – Guide Attention in Shared Files
The pointer tool turns the instructor’s cursor into a pointer that is visible to all participants when sharing content with the File Share (PDF and PPTX files). TAs can also access this tool when content is shared. The pointer tool has to be enabled by an Admin in the Admin Portal’s Site Settings.
Block Engagement Tools – Manage Disruptive Behavior with Ease
Instructors and TAs can block the engagement tools for specific learners displaying disruptive behavior.
- Screen sharing, reactions, and Q&A are removed from the learner’s bottom toolbar.
- The learner can only send chat messages to the instructor and Staff channels.
- Staff see the “Engagement Tools Blocked” label on the learner’s video.
- The hand raise button is disabled.
- The user’s microphone is blocked.
- The tools are removed from the whiteboard (class and table).
- The user’s active screen share (class or table) is stopped.
Engagement tools can be easily unblocked when needed.
The "Block Engagement Tools" feature supports (Individualized Education Program (IEP) plans by providing targeted interventions for learners who need help with focus, self-regulation, or behavior management. It allows instructors to minimize distractions, scaffold engagement, and maintain an inclusive environment.
Known Issue: TA Control Over Learner Engagement Tools – In this release, Teaching Assistants (TAs) have a new option to block a learner's engagement tools; however, this new functionality is not currently working as expected and a fix will be provided in an upcoming release.
