This article will cover the "Recordings" tab within the Class Portal. When a live class session is recorded, the recording will appear as an entry on this tab. You can also manually upload your own video files to this tab. Items that appear on this tab will appear for learners who visit the classroom's Playback Room. Below is a screenshot of a sample classroom's "Recordings" tab.
We'll now go over all the items that appear near the top of the page:
- Table View/Tile View - This toggle switch will display all the entries as either rows in a table or as tiles with thumbnails.
- + Add Recording - Clicking the "+ Add Recording" icon will allow you to upload video files to this area of the classroom. Note that this "Recordings" tab should ideally contain videos that you'd want Learners to be able to access from the Playback Room, such as session recordings or supplemental videos. Such videos also benefit from having learner activity tracked via the Analytics area (i.e. you'll be able to track learner activity for each of the videos). Videos that you plan to share only during live class sessions should be uploaded to the "Content" tab, instead.
The majority of the page will be populated by a table--or tiles--of all the entries. We'll describe each column of the table, though these options are also available via the tile view.
- Name - The name assigned to the video.
- Private - This will show whether the video is marked Private or Public. Private videos will not be visible to Learners. You can click the eyeball icon in this column to toggle the setting. An eyeball with a slash through it indicates the video is Private; an eyeball without a slash through it indicates the video is Public.
- Created - This will show the date that the recorded class session took place or, if the video was manually uploaded, the date of the upload.
- Duration - This will show the duration of the video in HH:MM:SS format.
- Source - This will either show "Past Session" or "Manually Uploaded". "Past Session" means its a recording of a past class session. "Manually Uploaded" means the video was manually uploaded by a user.
- Processing - This will show if the video is "Ready" for use or if its still "Processing".
- Caption - This column will contain 3 icons related to captions/subtitles for the video. From left to right, the icons are as follows:
- Download WebVTT File - If there is a caption file associated with the recording, clicking this will download its .vtt file.
- Replace Subtitle File - This icon can be clicked to upload a new or replace the existing .vtt file for the video.
- Delete Subtitle File - This icon can be clicked to delete the existing .vtt file associated with the recording.
- Actions - This column will initially appear empty, but icons will be revealed once you hover over the table entries. These icons allow you to apply additional actions to the corresponding recording. We'll describe each of the icons under this column:
- Copy Link to Playback Room - Clicking this will copy an authenticated link that will take you directly to this recording in the Playback Room. Specifically, when you paste the link into your browser, you'll be taken to the classroom lobby page. Upon joining the Playback Room, this recording will automatically load into the main panel.
- Copy Link to MP4 File - Clicking this will copy a link to the MP4 file of the recording to your clipboard. If you need to download the recording as a video file, you can paste the URL into your browser and once the video loads, right-click it and select "Save video as...". If you plan to download and share the recording, be sure to check with your organization's privacy guidelines.
Note: Downloading the video file associated with a recorded class session will only download the mp4 file. Any metadata associated with the recording would not be included. - Edit Recording - Clicking this will take you to the classroom's lobby. Upon joining the Playback Room, the recording will automatically be loaded into the video player in edit mode.
- Change Name - Clicking this will open a small window, where you can key in a new name for the video.
- Delete - Clicking this will delete the video.
Lastly, you can click each row of the table to bring up a Recording Details view of the entry. This window will include a large preview image of the first frame of the video, as well as many of the same controls found in the Actions column of the table view. Below is a sample image of this detailed view:
