This article explores the "PDF" and "PowerPoint" activity types available when adding content to a module. Both options enable you to insert a PDF or PowerPoint file for learners to review. Although listed separately, their workflows and configuration options are virtually the same--so this guide applies to both.
When selecting either activity, you will have the option to upload a PDF or PowerPoint document, respectively, from your computer or to select an existing one from either this classroom or another classroom's Content area.
Note: For PowerPoint, we only accept uploading of files ending in .pptx. The legacy .ppt format is not accepted.
Below is a screenshot of the window that loads once you've selected the PDF to be used:
The main portion of the window is dedicated to the PDF/PowerPoint preview area, where you can scroll through and view each page of the document. Below are the additional interface options:
- Name - The document's name appears at the top of the window and will serve as the default activity name. You can edit it if needed. This name acts as the activity label, so choose something clear and descriptive.
- Page Navigator - Located at the bottom of the preview area, this toolbar lets you move between individual pages and preview them. It also includes a "Hide/Show Page" button, allowing you to toggle the visibility of each page independently. By default, all pages will be visible to learners. Note: Hiding pages is meant for convenience only. If your document contains sensitive content that should not be accessible to learners or visible on the Engageli platform, please ensure those pages are removed prior to uploading the document to Engageli.
- Configure Page Visibility - This tool, similar to the "Hide/Show Button", opens a dialog box where you can define which pages learners will see. It reflects any pages already hidden via the Page Navigator and is especially useful for concealing large groups of pages. See below for a reference screenshot of the dialog box:
- Estimate - This indicates the anticipated duration to complete the activity. By default, the system will automatically assign a value here, though you can adjust it as needed. This value mainly serves as a reference point for estimating the overall time required to complete the module or activity, with minimal functional impact.
- Allow Download Material - Enable this option if you'd like to allow learners to download the PDF while viewing it. When selected, a "Download" button will appear, allowing them to save the document during review. Note: When learners download the document using this mechanism, all pages of the document will be included, even hidden ones.
- Add to Module - Click this button to add the PDF/PowerPoint activity to your module.
