This article explains the "YouTube Video" option available when adding an activity to a module. This option can be used to insert a video hosted on YouTube and is intended to be used to insert supplemental video content that the base video may not cover or not cover in sufficient detail.
When selecting this activity, you have the option of providing the URL to a YouTube video or selecting a YouTube video already saved to this classroom or another classroom's Content area.
Below is a screenshot of the preview window that appears when a YouTube video has been selected:
The window contains a few elements, which we'll cover:
- Name - The name of the video, which will also be used as the activity name. You may change this as needed.
- Video Preview - Most of the window is occupied by the YouTube video, where you can preview it.
- Add to Module - Click this button to add the YouTube video activity to the module.
After adding the YouTube video activity to your module, additional editing features become available. You'll see markers indicating the start and end points of the video segment that learners are expected to view. By default, these markers span the full length of the video, but you can click-and-drag to reposition them along the timeline as needed. The screenshot below illustrates the editing interface, highlighting the adjustable start and end flags:
When learners begin the YouTube video activity, playback will automatically start and stop at the timestamps defined by the start and end flags. While learners can freely explore other parts of the video, a subtle prompt will appear to remind them of the specific segment they're expected to view, as shown below:
