This article introduces the "Quick Poll" view, accessible via the Views Tabs section. When selected, it will load the currently-active Quick Poll activity into the main panel. This tab will only appear if a Quick Poll is active. Below is a visual example of the Quick Poll view:
The contents of the Quick Poll view are fairly intuitive, though there are some controls available only to staff members that are worth elaborating upon. We'll cover all the items seen within this view, as well as point out staff-only controls.
- Quick Poll Question - At the very top of the panel is the question to which participants are being asked to provide a response.
- Quick Poll Answer Options - Just under the question will be the answer options to choose from. If the Quick Poll is a single or multiple answer selection, then you will see a list of pre-defined answers from which you can select. If the Quick Poll is a word cloud type poll, then you should see a text box where you can type in your response.
Note: Instructors can answer the Quick Poll question, but their answer will be logged as the correct answer to the question, rather than as a participant answer. Additionally, Instructors will not be able to respond to word clouds, since the correct answer is not something we support with this Quick Poll type. - Quick Poll Results - This panel is only visible to Instructors and TAs and will show the current responses provided by participants. It will update as responses are submitted or changed. If the Quick Poll is a single or multiple answer type, then a pie chart will appear, showing details of user answers. If the Quick Poll is a word cloud type, then a word cloud will appear. As is typical with word clouds, the font size of each word or phrase will increase the more frequently it was provided as a response.
- Lock Quick Poll - This toggle switch is only available to class Instructors. Enabling this will prevent users from submitting or changing their answers.
- Share Results - This toggle switch is only available to class Instructors. Enabling this will reveal the quick poll results panel to all class participants, including Learners.
- Split by Results - This button is only available to class Instructors. Clicking it will allow you to assign participants to tables based on their answers. Note that this button is only available with single and multiple answer Quick Polls; it is not available with word clouds. Below is a screenshot of the pop-up that appears upon clicking the button:
We'll briefly describe the options seen within this pop-up:- Split By - Select either "Diverse Answers" or "Common Answers". This will distribute participants to tables with a focus on ensuring diverse answers at each table or will attempt to group common answers among tablemates.
- Learners per Table - Select the number of Learners you'd like at each table.
- Reserved Tables - If you have one or more tables that class TAs are seated at and would like to ensure Learners are not distributed to those, set a reservation count here. The tables reserved will be in sequential order, so if you select for 2 tables to be reserved, those would be Table 1 and Table 2.
- Split / Cancel - Select these buttons to either begin the split or to cancel the action.
- Stop Quick Poll - This button can be found at the top-right of the screen and is only accessible to Instructors. Once the class is ready to move on from the Quick Poll, click here to end it.
