The "YouTube Player" view can be accessed through the Views Tabs section. When selected, it displays the YouTube video clip actively being shared with the classroom. This tab will only be visible if the Instructor is sharing a YouTube video clip with the classroom. An example of the YouTube Player view is shown below:
The main panel will consist of the video itself. As its name suggests, this view is specifically utilized to view videos that are being shared from YouTube.
To maintain a consistent viewing experience, only Instructors have access to the video player controls, which are detailed below. Learners will not be able to interact with the YouTube video player in any way.
Classroom Instructors will have access to the following video player controls:
- Play / Pause - Starts or stops the video for the entire class.
- Volume Adjust - Adjusts the video's audio level, affecting all participants.
- Playback Speed - Adjusts the playback speed of the video for all participants.
- Seek Bar - Displays the video's progress and allows navigation to different points. Any changes made here will move the video to that position for the entire class.
The YouTube video player may include additional controls beyond those listed above. Instructors are free to use these, but changes will only apply to their own view and not to the rest of the classroom. For instance, adjusting video quality affects only the Instructor’s playback, not that of other participants.
Below are some important items to note about how the YouTube Player functions within Engageli:
- Each participant's video quality is automatically set to YouTube's "Auto" mode. This ensures smoother playback, even for users with slower internet connections or less powerful devices. However, it also means that video clarity may vary from one participant to another.
- Each participant views the video directly through YouTube. As a result, any restrictions that apply when watching on YouTube also apply within Engageli. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Geographic restrictions - Videos unavailable in certain countries may fail to load for some participants.
- Age restrictions - Age‑restricted content may prevent access for certain users.
- Network / Firewall restrictions - Corporate or institutional policies that block YouTube can cause playback issues.
- Parental browser controls - Browser or device settings that restrict YouTube access may also block the video.
