This article will discuss the Present menu's "Share Screen" option, available to class Instructor's from the Live Classroom. Below is a screenshot that highlights the location of this option within the Present menu:
The Share Screen feature lets instructors broadcast their screen to the entire classroom.
When selected, a browser pop-up will appear, prompting you to select the tab, window, or screen you’d like to share. A sample screenshot is shown below of this pop-up:
This example is from the Chrome browser, though the pop-up looks similar across most browsers. Below is an explanation of each sharing option:
- Tab - Shares only the browser tab you select. This is the safest choice if you have multiple windows or applications open and want to avoid accidentally exposing unrelated content. Restricting the share to a single browser tab ensures that nothing outside of it will be seen by others.
- Window - Shares the entire application window you choose. This is helpful when presenting content outside the browser, such as Microsoft PowerPoint. You can also use this option to share a specific browser window, including all of its tabs.
- Screen - This will share the entire screen or monitor. This option is best when your presentation spans multiple applications or views--for example, switching between Chrome, PowerPoint, system settings, or even parts of your desktop.
Near the bottom of the pop-up, you’ll find a toggle that lets you share audio from the selected source. This is helpful when presenting videos, as it ensures the sound is included for your audience.
After selecting the source to share hit the "Share" button. A "Class Share" tab will then be added to the Views Tabs area for all class participants. To learn more about the actions you can take from the Class Share tab, please see the Live Classroom > Views Tabs > Class Share article.
Below are some key notes on screen sharing:
- Audio Sharing - Use caution when enabling audio sharing. If the Engageli tab is included in the screenshare, any sound from Engageli will be rebroadcast through the screenshare, which can result in echoes or unintended audio feedback.
- Right-Click Menus - Context menus opened with right-click may not always be visible to participants when sharing a tab or window. This behavior varies by browser and is controlled by the browser itself, not Engageli. If you run into this issue, try sharing your entire screen or switching to a different browser for better results.
