Classroom audio options allow you to find what works for you and your class.

Unmute Gallery OFF
In an Engageli classroom, the gallery is off by default. This means that as the instructor or co-instructor you will hear the audio feeds from all tables.
Note: While it might seem great to hear the whole class at once, remember that in Engageli, learners are sitting at tables and talking in multiple independent groups. If you leave the unmute gallery setting you will hear each individual table’s audio streams. For this reason, we typically recommend muting the gallery, especially if you have a large class.
Muted Gallery ON
When you turn Mute Gallery on, you will stop hearing audio feeds from each table and learners must raise their hands to ask a question. This more closely emulates a classroom and prevents learners from speaking over each other.
To mute the gallery (recommended for running a class), select the "Mute gallery" icon in the "More Actions" menu.
Pro Tip: Poking in everyone unmuted early in on a project is a good way to gauge participation, but not recommended during lecturing as you will hear everyone even in their individual groups.
By default, learners can only hear the instructor/co-instructor and table mates. Imagine sitting in a physical classroom where the tables are far enough apart to only hear the people you are sitting with. This facilitates and encourages small group discussion so if there are questions they can ask their peers first! That’s what it’s like in Engageli, too!
However, there are times when having an open discussion amongst the entire class is useful. During those times, you can and should use Discussion Mode.
1. Click on the Actions menu (three dots on application) and choose 'Discussion Mode'.
2. Once enabled, your learners will see a notification at the top of their screen.
3. When you are ready to turn off Discussion Mode and go back into small groups, choose More Actions -> Disable Discussion Mode.
Mute/Unmute All Students
You will see the following audio options during class:
Mute all students: This will make it so all learners in the classroom are not able to speak.
Mute all tables: This will make it so all learners cannot speak at their tables. Learners can only hear the instructor or co-instructor.
Please note: Learners do have the ability to undo this action. You can undo it as well by selecting "Unmute all tables." It is not possible to mute/unmute individual tables.
Individual Learner Audio Settings
Mute/Unmute Individual Learner
1. Hover over the learner’s video feed and select Mute from the drop-down menu.
Please note: Muting a learner in the gallery will also mute them at their table group and on the podium if their hand was already raised.
2. In order to unmute, hover over the learner’s video feed and select "request to unmute.”
