This article will discuss the Present menu's "File Share" option, available to class Instructor's from the Live Classroom. Below is a screenshot that highlights the location of this option within the Present menu:
The "File Share" feature can be used to share a PDF or PPTX document with the classroom.
When selecting the option from the menu, the below pop-up will appear, where you are prompted to select the document to share:
There are several fields that appear in this window and we'll describe each of them below:
- Drag and Drop File Here, or Click to Select - To upload a file from your computer, click this large button or use drag-and-drop to drop your file into this area. Our system will only accept PDF and PPTX files.
- Save to Content for Next Session - If you choose to upload your own document, you can mark this box to indicate that you'd like to save this document to the classroom's Content area, which would make it available for future sessions. Note: This option applies only if you proceed with sharing the file.
- Share - Click this to begin sharing the document you've uploaded.
- Select from Your Library - If there are documents uploaded to the classroom's Content area, they'll appear as thumbnail images here. If you'd like to share an existing document, look for it in this area, then select it.
Once a File Share is initiated, a "File Share" views tab will be added for all class participants, where they'll be able to see the contents.
There are important notes regarding usage of the File Share feature, which we've listed below:
- File size limit: Uploaded files must not exceed 100MB.
- PPTX processing time: PowerPoint files take longer to process than PDFs because Engageli converts them to PDF before sharing. The conversion is usually quick, but very large PPTX files may take up to a minute. To avoid delays during live sessions, we recommend uploading large PPTX files to the classroom's Content area in advance.
- Slide notes: Any notes included in PPTX slides are preserved and accessible to instructors in the "File Share" view tab.
- Animations: Animations in PPTX files are flattened during conversion, meaning they will appear as static content.
