Overview
This article will discuss the Present menu's "Timer" option, available to class Instructor's from the Live Classroom. Below is a screenshot that highlights the location of this option within the Present menu:
The "Timer" is a simple tool that lets Instructors set a countdown. When the timer reaches zero, it plays an audible ding sound--heard by all participants--to signal the end.
Upon selecting the "Timer" button, a small menu will appear near the left side of the Bottom Panel, as shown below:
Within this menu, you will have the following options:
- Timer Value - Key in the minutes and seconds value for your countdown timer.
- Stop Timer - Click this to cancel and close the timer.
- Run Timer - Select this to begin the timer.
When the countdown starts, an indicator appears in the same area, showing the remaining time.
You can hover your mouse over the indicator to bring up its menu, as shown below:
The menu for an active timer is slightly different than the one for starting a timer. We'll describe the fields seen for this version of the menu:
- +1 Minute - Click this to instantly add 1 minute to the timer.
- Stop Timer - Click this to immediately stop and close the timer--no ding sound will be triggered.
- Pause Timer - Click this to pause the timer.
Lastly, for Learners and TAs, the timer will appear at the top-right of the screen, next to the Instructor's podium portrait, as shown below:
Notes
Here are some important notes regarding the "Timer" feature:
- Only the Instructor who started the timer can interact with it. For example, if the session has two Instructors, only the one that started the timer can add time, stop, or pause it. The other Instructor will see the timer, but they won't be able to access its menu.
- The timer relies on the Instructor who initiated it to have a stable internet connection. The timer can briefly freeze if the Instructor has a momentary drop in internet. If the Instructor's connection drops for too long, the timer may be automatically cancelled.
