You can add closed captioning directly on Engageli and using the Google Chrome browser's ‘Live Captioning’ feature.
Captions are available during a live class, during recordings in the Engageli Playback room, or when a video is played in class. The captions ONLY capture the instructors and learners on the podium when class is in Room Mode. It does not capture any conversations at individual tables (Table Mode). We recommend enabling the accessibility settings for both Engageli and Google Chrome.
If your instructor has enabled captions on Engageli
1. When you enter the class, open your menu (three dots).
2. Select Display Captions.
In addition to Engageli captions, if you are going to be working in table groups, we also recommend using the Google Chrome 'Live Captioning' feature.
This feature can be used for live classes or video playback in the Playback room.
1. Go to the 'Customize and Control' menu (three dots) in the top right corner of your web browser.
2. Click on 'Settings.'
3. Scroll all the way down to 'Advanced' and open the menu.
4. Under 'Accessibility' turn on 'Live Caption.'
After you’ve enabled captions on Engageli and adjusted settings for the Google Chrome Browser, you will see captions in a display that you can move around the screen.
Playback Room Transcript
When you watch a recording of your class in a Playback room, you will see captions in the Transcription tab. You can search captions and it will show you all recorded captions.
Remember that the audio at tables is never recorded. Only the instructor at the staff table, anyone on the podium, all speaking in room mode, and panelists are included in the recording.
