Overview
This article introduces the "Quiz" view, accessible via the Views Tabs section. When selected, it will load the currently-active Quiz activity into the main panel. This tab will only appear if a Quiz is active. Below is a visual example of the Quiz view:
The content displayed in the main panel is divided into two parts: the thin toolbar at the top and the quiz content below it. What participants see in each section may vary depending on their role. The following sections explain both areas in detail and highlight elements that are visible only to certain participants.
Toolbar
At the top of the main panel is the toolbar. This bar contains various management tools and quiz navigation controls. We'll describe each of these items:
- Lock Quiz - This toggle, located toward the left side of the toolbar, is available only to Instructors. When enabled, participants are prevented from submitting answers to any questions they have not yet responded to.
- Share Answers - This toggle, available only to Instructors, makes the results chart and correct‑answer markers--normally limited to Instructors and TAs--visible to Learners. More information about this chart appears in the Poll Content section. When enabled, Learners will be able to see the correct answer for every question, including those they haven't answered. We recommend turning this on only after all Learners have finished the Quiz.
- Save as Template to Content - This button, located near the left side of the bar, is only available to Instructors. As its label suggests, this can be clicked to save the current quiz question set for future use.
- Question Navigator - These navigation controls, located at the center of the bar, provide a row of horizontally arranged buttons that participants can use to move through the question set. A button will appear for every question in the set, allowing participants to navigate to a specific question, as well as left and right arrows that can be used to move through questions, one at a time. A Results button also appears at the end, which participants can select to view a summary of the entire question set.
- Stop Quiz - On the right side of the bar is this button, which can be selected to end the Quiz activity. This button is only available to Instructors.
- Submit Quiz - On the right side of the bar is this button, available only to Learners and TAs. When you've selected a response for every quiz question, click this to submit and finalize your answers. You will not be able to change your answers after submitting your quiz.
Quiz Content
The majority of the main panel is devoted to the Quiz Content section, which shows the details of the question currently selected by the participant. The exact information displayed varies slightly based on the participant’s role. The next two sections explain these differences.
Staff View
For Staff, the Quiz Content area shows the selected question along with an indicator marking the correct answer.
Instructors also have access to a "Save Answer" button for each question, allowing them to update the correct answer when needed--especially helpful if the originally designated answer turns out to be incorrect.
Towards the right side of the container, Staff members will also see the results of participant responses as a chart, as shown below:
The charts only display answer counts and not user-specific responses. If you are an Instructor, however, you'll notice a toggle at the top-right of these charts that you can use to flip between Chart and List format. Below is an example of the List format, where individual responses are shown:
When viewing the final page of the question set--the Results page--Staff members have access to see an overview of participants responses and progress. The default view for this is the Chart view, as shown below:
Each question is listed with the percentage of participants who have submitted a response, along with a breakdown of correct versus incorrect submissions.
Staff members will also notice a toggle at the top-left of the Results page that can be used to switch between the Chart and List view. The List view shows a list of each participant, along with the number of questions they got correct and whether they've passed the quiz. Below is an example screenshot:
Below are a few notes for classroom Staff to be aware of as far as the Poll Content area goes:
- Instructors can view individual quiz results in Chart and List view, while TAs are limited to only the Chart view.
- Both Instructors and TAs can access the Results page in either Chart or List view.
- During the Quiz activity, Staff members will notice a count appearing at the bottom-right of each Learner's portrait, showing something like "3/5". This value reflects the number of quiz questions the Learner has answered out of the total number of questions in the set. Below is an image highlighting this feature:
- Instructors cannot submit answers to quiz questions; if they select an option, the system treats that selection as updating the question's correct answer.
Learner View
For Learners, the Quiz Content area will contain the details of their currently-selected question. Below is an example image showing the currently-selected question and its answer options:
By default, Learners cannot see the results chart that shows how the class answered each question nor can they see which answer is the correct one, even after submitting their response. These details are only visible only if the Instructor enables the "Share Answers" toggle.
When viewing the final page of the question set--the Results page--Learners will see a count of the number of questions they've answered out of the total number of questions in the quiz. Below is an example screenshot of this page from the Learner perspective:
If the Instructor enables the "Share Answers" toggle, then the Learner will instead see a count of the number of questions they got correct, as shown in the below example:
