Release Notes for Engageli Version 3.1.57-20260428
Enhancements / Changes
Classroom
"Restrict learner camera to staff" is a new option available in each Learner's 3‑dots menu, visible only to Instructors and TAs. When enabled, the Learner's webcam feed becomes viewable exclusively by staff. All other Learners will see that participant's avatar instead. The feature is intentionally discreet since only staff members are informed that it is active, and Learners (including the affected one) see no indication that anything has changed. Below is the exact behavior when this setting is applied:
"Hidden by staff" label - Staff members will see a small "hidden by staff" tag in the bottom‑left corner of the Learner's video.
Unaffected self‑view - The affected Learner continues to see their own webcam preview normally and is not notified that their video is hidden from peers.
Avatar shown to peers - All other Learners see the participant's standard avatar in place of their webcam feed.
Similar to the “Restrict learner camera to staff” option that has been added to the 3-dots menu under each Learner’s portrait, a “Restrict learner cameras to staff” toggle has been added to the 3-dots menu found near the right side of the Live Classroom’s bottom panel, accessible only to Instructors. This has the effect of applying the restriction to every learner in the classroom. This toggle can be used in conjunction with the individual learner restriction to support restricting cameras of all but a selected number of learners in only a few clicks.
The Rallyo activity has been renamed to Sprint. This update provides a name that more intuitively reflects the activity's fast‑paced, competitive quiz game.
Sprint activities can be created from within the Live Classroom; they no longer have to be created ahead of time from the Class Portal. Engageli has also added the ability to have the Sprint generated using AI:
The Quiz and Poll activities no longer require participants to hit “Submit Answer” on every question. Selecting an answer option will be sufficient.
The Quiz and Poll activities have been updated to better differentiate between questions with a single answer and questions with multiple answers.
Participants watching class recordings containing Sprint activities can now participate in them as part of the Playback Room experience.
If the class Instructor is visiting a table and wants to toggle the class to Room Audio mode, Engageli will honor this request and automatically move the Instructor back to the Podium. Previously, the Room Audio toggle would simply be disabled until the Instructor moved back to the Podium. This automation will streamline moving between Room and Table Audio modes.
The Chat, Whiteboard, and Audio Mode toggles have undergone A11y-related accessibility improvements.
Instructors will see a new "To Podium" button on the left side of the bottom panel in the Live Classroom. When visiting tables, this button provides a consistent, easy‑to‑find way for Instructors to return to the podium.
When creating a Poll or Quiz, the additional detail field associated with each answer option has been relabeled from “Add Note” to a more intuitive “Add Explanation”.
When navigating to a classroom URL that includes the “playback=y” parameter, the option to join the live classroom is hidden. This ensures that users following links intended for the Playback Room or for specific Playback Room content don't accidentally enter the live session.
Engageli has improved the error messages shown to users who fail to authenticate through SSO. These clearer messages help users understand what went wrong and what steps they need to take to resolve the issue.
Engageli has modified the code behind many buttons in the classroom to be more compatible with screen readers and for accessibility. This does not result in any visual changes.
In an effort to maintain consistency, the common utility buttons (such as stop, annotate, and zoom) have been moved to the top‑right corner of the screen when an activity is being presented. Previously, their placement varied between activities, which sometimes made it difficult to stop or manage an activity because the controls weren’t always where users expected them to be. Below is an example of the new placements for the File Share; other activities have undergone a similar change:
The File Share annotation tool has been upgraded. Annotations now remain in place as you move between pages, and each annotation stays attached to the specific page where it was added, enabling more flexible workflows.
The File Share pointer will now appear in class recordings whenever a session is recorded and the File Share view is included. This update applies only to new recordings and does not affect previous sessions.
Admin Portal
To support more efficient backend processing, unarchiving a classroom may now take up to 48 hours. When this extended processing window applies, there will be a notice indicating the delay:Below is the message as it appears in the Class Portal:
A timeout has been introduced for users who open a classroom in the Admin Portal and leave it idle. After 5 minutes of inactivity, the user's lock on the classroom is released, and they are prompted to either regain control or continue in a limited‑access view. This prevents situations where someone unintentionally keeps a classroom locked for long periods by leaving the page open in the background.
The Classes > Seating tab’s “No. of Learners” column has been removed. With the retirement of roster seating, this column is no longer applicable.
The Classes > Table Documents tab no longer offers a “Generate Materials in Set” button.
Engageli’s integration with Miro has been retired. Please use Engageli’s native whiteboard and annotation tools going forward.
Guest links will now expire after 12 months of inactivity, instead of the previous 3‑month cutoff. This updated timeframe applies only to guest links created from this point forward, such as those generated for newly created classrooms or produced through a guest‑link reset.
The modal window that details Interaction Controls settings has been revised for clarity for the classroom controls under this setting
Class Portal
The Classrooms List page is now available. Users can navigate to it by going to “https://<PARTNER>.engageli.com/<PARTNER>/current/rooms” where PARTNER is your organization’s name or by clicking the “back” arrow at the top-left from any classroom’s Class Portal page, as shown below:
The Classrooms List page will display classrooms in a table format. The prior tile format has been retired.
A Seating tab has been added to the Class Portal’s left-hand navigation bar. This tab mirrors the functionality of the Seating tab found in the Admin Portal, allowing users to now manage table seating from either portal.
A new Export Quiz Report button is available from the Analytics tab. Clicking this will allow export details of Quizzes that were run during a specified period. The export will be in .xslx format and will contain columns indicating the quiz name, questions, each participant’s response, and more.
The Settings > Configuration page, where classroom settings are managed, has been reorganized into two tabs: Class Configuration and Advanced Settings. The Class Configuration tab now highlights the settings used most frequently, while Advanced Settings contains the more complex options that are rarely adjusted. The update applies to the Configuration page in both the Class Portal and the Live Classroom.
The classroom lock mechanism, previously available only in the Admin Portal, has been added to the Class Portal. This mechanism prevents multiple users from editing a classroom simultaneously, reducing the risk of overwriting each other's changes. It also ensures that no one can modify a classroom's settings while a live session is in progress.
The "Previous Sessions" tab in the Class Portal has been renamed to "Past Sessions". Additionally, if the system detects that the classroom has been configured with schedule entries but finds a past session that isn't linked to any schedule, Engageli will display an "Unscheduled" label to help users quickly spot sessions they may have forgotten to schedule.
The "Participants" tab within the left-hand navigation bar has been renamed to "Roster". Functionality remains the same.
Studio
Learning Pal has undergone interactivity improvements: its responses will be more relevant to the content of the current module being worked on.
When creating a module by using a PDF document, users can now make adjustments to the AI-generated results.
API
Classrooms created via API previously would only generate guest links once a user visited them in the Admin Portal. This has been addressed: such classrooms will have guest links available as soon as they are created.
More detailed information will now be included in the API data for Sprint activities.
Archived classroom data will now be included when querying classroom data in general. Previously, Engageli only returned data for active classrooms.
Fixes
Admin Portal
Various labels were modified for clarification under the Actions Tags Lab > Table Seating tab.
The AI engine has been modified to more reliably spell “Engageli” correctly when it appears in generated text.
Resolved occasional issue where unarchiving a classroom would result in it getting “stuck”.
Engageli resolved an issue where certain parts of the platform were allowing users to upload PPT (legacy PowerPoint format) files, but the files never finished processing. Because our system does not officially support PPT uploads, appropriate restrictions in all areas were added where they were previously missing.
Resolved an issue where images did not always load when navigating the Admin Portal.
Classroom
Adjusted the tooltip message for the AI Caption Summary feature found in the Notes panel when AI features aren’t enabled for the partner sandbox. The message will now read “Please enable AI in class to be able to create recent discussion summaries”.
Resolved an issue where unrostered users attempting to join a classroom would see the page refresh instead of receiving an appropriate error message.
Resolved an issue where, if the Class Gallery view tab was being recorded and the class had a second Instructor present, this Instructor would appear in the Class Gallery view tab recording.
Resolved an issue where participants on the podium at the moment an action‑tag poll began would occasionally see the poll’s interactive elements misaligned with the slide.
Further adjustments have been made to address the issue where users see a white screen shortly after an Engageli system update.
Resolved issue where learners saw “Quiz in progress” persist even after the Quiz activity within the current Module was completed. This was specific to the Playback Room.
The “Test Your System” tool, accessed via the classroom lobby, contained links that pointed to invalid help center articles. This is resolved.
Resolved a rare issue where class recordings got trimmed.
Resolved a rare issue where class recordings would omit audio.
Resolved issue that allowed participants to modify the contents of a deleted chat message.
Resolved issue where emojis appearing within PPTX files would not appear properly when the PPTX was converted to PDF within Engageli.
Resolved issue that allowed participants to determine which table the Instructor was peeking at.
Resolved issue where the .docx file resulting from downloading the class session’s chat logs had some items misaligned.
Resolved issue where an MP4 video being presented in class did not display properly for the Instructor
Resolved issue where sorting the List View of quiz answers in a Live Classroom by clicking the column headers required several clicks.
Resolved issue where Instructors on smaller monitors could not see the currently-active class Timer.
Resolved issue where images/screenshots in the Notes panel would not properly load.
Resolved issue where annotations applied to a Note entry didn’t always take effect.
Removed the annotation option for File Share within the Playback Room. This feature did not work properly and was never intended to be available within the Playback Room.
Resolved issue that allowed table seating to be set beyond the current cap of 50.
Resolved issue that occurs with Chrome v149 that causes our noise cancellation feature to not function properly.
Resolved issue where adding a URL to your chat message would cause the message to get split into multiple columns once sent. Below is a screenshot of the issue:
