Overview
This article covers the "Seating" tab of the Class Portal. The "Seating" tab allows you to adjust the classroom's table names and seating arrangements. Its function closely mirrors the "Seating" tab you can find when viewing the classroom from the Admin Portal. To visit that article, you can click the following link: Classes > Seating.
Below is a screenshot of a sample classroom's "Seating" tab as seen from the Class Portal:
As seen, the majority of the page is occupied by a table of the classroom's existing seating presets with a few buttons just above the table. We'll describe each item:
- Manage Tables - This button, found at the top-right of the page, allows you to update table names and adjust the total number of tables in the classroom. Engageli will automatically create additional tables during a live session if seating becomes limited, so manually adding tables is only necessary when you want to set up preset seating in advance. Below is an example of the pop‑up that appears when this button is selected:
-
+ Add Seating - Located at the top-right of the page, selecting this button allows you to create a new seating arrangement. You will be prompted to provide a name for the arrangement, the number of seats per table, and an optional short description. See below of the pop-up that appears upon clicking this button:
-
Seating Arrangement Table - The majority of the page will be occupied by a table of the classroom's existing seating arrangements. We'll describe each column of this table:
- Name - The name assigned to the arrangement.
- Description - The short description assigned to the arrangement.
- Date Created - The date the arrangement was created.
- Date Modified - The date the arrangement was last modified.
- Edit - Hovering your cursor over an existing row will reveal an "edit" icon, which can be used to modify the entry's name or description.
- Delete - Hovering your cursor over an existing row will reveal a trashcan icon, which can be selected to delete the seating preset.
Clicking a seating arrangement from the table will open its details screen, allowing you to modify its seating assignments. In the next section, we'll cover the seating arrangement details page.
Seating Arrangement Details
Selecting an entry from the seating arrangement table will bring up its details screen, where you can adjust the seating arrangement. Below is a sample screenshot that details page:
As you can see, it closely resembles the Tables view tab of the Live Classroom, where tables appear as tiles and within each, Learners assigned to that table appear. We'll cover each of the items that appears in this details screen:
- Table View / List View - Click this to toggle between Table View and List View. Table View will display a tile of tables and within each tile with Learners appearing as their avatar images. With List View, tables appear as tiles and within each tile and Learners are listed by name.
- Participant Search - If you need to locate the table a specific participant is assigned to under the current seating present, select them from this list and the table will be highlighted. You can also type in their name to filter the list.
- Assign Unassigned Learners - This button adds any Learners on the roster who don't yet have a seat. This is especially useful when you've added new Learners to the roster after creating a preset.
- Table Tiles - Most of the page is occupied by this section, which displays all tables along with the Learners assigned to each one. The way Learners are represented within each tile will vary depending on whether you have Table View or List View selected. To move a Learner to a different table, you can either drag and drop or click to expand a dropdown menu, where you can choose a new table assignment.
