Introduction
This article provides an overview of the "Analytics" page for a module. This page displays analytics data specific to the module you accessed. Below is a screenshot of a sample module's Analytics page:
The top half of the page is comprised of charts that give you an overview of activity on the module, while the bottom half of the page contains a table that provides more granular data. You will also notice a row of icons at the top-right of the page, allowing you to take actions specific to this module.
Icons at Top-Right of Page
The below list outlines the icons seen at the top-right of the page:
-
Module Summary - Select this icon to view an AI-generated summary of the module's analytics, highlighting user progress patterns and suggested actions. Below is an example of this summary:
- Share Module - Selecting this icon opens a pop-up window that will contain links you can copy and share with course participants. This triggers the same functionality as the "Share" option seen from the "Modules" tab.
- Preview Module - Select this icon to experience this module as a user would from the Playback Room. This triggers the same functionality as the "Preview as Learner" option seen from the "Modules" tab.
- Edit Module - Select this to edit the module; you'll be taken to the module builder screen. This triggers the same functionality as the "Edit" option seen from the "Modules" tab.
Charts
The upper section of the page features two charts that offer a snapshot of user progress within the module. These charts present aggregated data that merges activity from both rostered and guest users, without distinguishing between the two groups. Here's what each chart represents:
-
Completion by Learners - This pie chart illustrates how users are progressing through the module, categorized into three states: Done, In Progress, and Not Started. It shows both the percentage and the total number of users in each category.
Adjacent to the pie chart, you'll see time-based metrics for module completion: Average Completion Time, Fastest Completion Time, and Slowest Completion Time. These time values will be presented in HH:MM:SS format. -
Completion by Time - This bar chart visualizes learner progress over time.
- X-axis - Displays time intervals--Daily, Weekly, or Monthly--selectable via the dropdown in the chart’s upper-right corner. Each interval contains grouped bars showing the number of learners across five progress stages: Not Started, 1–30% Done, 30–60% Done, 60–99% Done, and Done.
- Y-axis - Represents the total number of learners.
To see exact figures, hover over any bar group to reveal a text-based summary--no need to estimate values at a glance. We've provided an example below of this summary:
Table
The bottom portion of this page will display a table, detailing data specific to each user or activity, depending on the view selected. Along the top of the table are a handful of tools you may find useful as you review this data. We'll describe each of these tools below:
- Learners/Activities View - Use this pair of buttons to switch between displaying learner-specific data or activity-based insights within the module. We'll detail each view later in this article.
- Review & Feedback - Click this button to launch a pop-up window showing how each learner interacted with individual activities in the module. Want to check a learner’s response to a particular Quick Poll in the module? You’ll find that information here. To learn more about the Review & Feedback tool, click here.
- Search - To filter the table by a learner's name or email address, key the full or partial value here and hit enter.
-
Learner Filter Options - Click to reveal a dropdown menu where you can filter the table using one or more criteria. The options listed below can be applied individually or in combination to refine the view.:
- Not Started - Filter by learners who have not started on the module.
- In Progress - Filter by learners who have started on the module, but not completed it.
- Done - Filter by learners who have completed the module.
- Include Guests - Include guest learners in the table's data.
- Expand - Click the icon to switch the table view between two modes: either occupying just the lower part of the page or extending to fill the full page height.
As mentioned earlier, the table can be toggled between Learners or Activities view and each will change the layout of the table. The below 2 sections will outline each of these views:
Learners View
With the Learners view active, the table will display information based around individual learners. Below is an example screenshot of the Learners view:
We'll now describe each column of the table:
- Rank - This will show a numerical ranking of learners based on the earliest completion from when the module was published. The first learner who completes the module is ranked 1 and so on. Learners that have not completed the module are not assigned a rank.
- Name - The name of the learner.
- Completion - This will show the learner's completion progress on the module, as a percentage. In the case of 0% and 100% completion, we'll instead show "Not Started" and "Done", respectively.
- Time Spent - The cumulative time the learner has spent navigating and engaging with the module, presented in HH:MM:SS format.
Activities View
With the Activities view active, instead a table, 3 separate lists will appear, reflecting learner progress as it relates to each of the module's activities. Below is an example screenshot of the Activities view:
We'll describe the 3 lists below, from left to right:
- Activity List - This list contains all of the module's activities. Select any of the entries here to update the data shown in the other 2 lists. A percentage value is also displayed within each entry, indicating the percentage of learners who have completed the activity.
- Not Done - This will show all the learners who have not completed the corresponding activity.
- Done - This list will show all learners who have completed the corresponding activity.
