Overview
This article introduces the "Quick Poll" option found in the Present menu, accessible to Instructors within the Live Classroom. The screenshot below illustrates where this feature is located in the menu:
The "Quick Poll" tool enables Instructors to interact with the class by posing a question for them to answer. It can serve as a rapid knowledge check on the material currently being covered or as an engaging warm-up activity at the start of a class session.
When you click the "Quick Poll" button, the Quick Poll creation screen appears, as shown in the screenshot below:
The creation screen consists of two panels:
- A left-hand panel containing multiple tab selections.
- A main panel that displays the details of the currently active tab.
By default, the "Create" tab is selected when the screen first loads, as shown in the earlier screenshot.
The remainder of this article will explain each tab in detail.
"Create" Tab
The "Create" tab is the default tab that is selected when the Quick Poll creation window opens. This tab allows you to create a new Quick Poll. Engageli offers a variety of configurations for your Quick Poll; let's go over each option that appears on this page:
-
Type - Select the type of question you'd like to ask. Your options are:
- Single Choice - This is a multiple choice, but single answer option. Users will be presented with multiple choices to select as an answer and can only select one of them.
- Multiple Choice - This is a multiple choice and multiple answer option. Users will be presented with multiple choices to select as an answer and can select any number of them.
- Word Cloud - This is a word cloud, where users type in their answer and the results are represented as a word cloud.
-
Create with AI - This menu can be used to have the Quick Poll automatically generated using AI. Note that this option is only available with Single Choice and Multiple Choice question types. Below are the options seen within this menu:
-
Based On - Use this dropdown to select the source material you'd like the AI engine to use in creating the Quick Poll. You'll have several options:
- File Share - This will leverage any documents seen through "File Share" view tab as the source and only the pages that have been flipped through during the specified time period.
-
Captions - Uses the captions recorded for the classroom during the selected time period. This option requires the "Allow live captions" setting to be enabled for the classroom.
Note: Engageli does not capture captions for conversations held at tables in Table Audio Mode. As a result, choosing this source will only generate questions based on discussions that occurred at the classroom level. - Captions and File - This will use both File Share and Captions as the source material.
-
Time Period - Use this dropdown to define the lookback window that the AI engine will use for reviewing source material. The available options are:
- Since the Session Began - Includes all source material from the start of the class session.
- From the Last 15 Mins - Restricts the source material to content from the past 15 minutes.
- From the Last 5 Mins - Restricts the source material to content from the past 5 minutes.
-
Advanced - This section provides additional options for customizing the AI-generated Quick Poll:
- Guide Your Quick Poll - An optional instruction field where you can give the AI engine specific guidance. For instance, if multiple topics were discussed recently but you want the Quick Poll to focus on one particular subject, you can enter that here to steer the question in the desired direction.
-
Generate - Once you’ve finished configuring your options, click this button to auto-generate the quick poll. After a few seconds, the question, answer choices, and correct answer fields will be automatically populated.
Note: The AI will only generate the number of answer options currently displayed on the screen. If you want a specific number of options available, be sure to adjust this setting beforehand.
-
Based On - Use this dropdown to select the source material you'd like the AI engine to use in creating the Quick Poll. You'll have several options:
- Enter Your Question - Key in the poll question here.
- Add Image - If there is an image you'd like to have appear when the poll is presented to class participants, you can click this button to upload one.
-
Answer Options - This table can be used to manage the poll's answer options. This table only appears for Single Choice and Multiple Choice polls. We'll describe the various fields that appear in this table:
- Enter Answer Option - Provide the text for the answer option here.
- Mark/Unmark as Correct - If the corresponding answer option is the or one of the correct answers, toggle this icon. Marking any answer options as "correct" is optional.

- + Add Answer - Click this link at the bottom of the table to add an additional answer option. You may have up to 8 answer options.
- Save to Library - If you'd like to save the Quick Poll for future use in this classroom, click this button and it will be instantly saved.

The "Library" tab will show you a list of all the Quick Polls that have been saved to the classroom. We'll describe the contents of this tab below:
-

- All - This will display both AI-Generated and Custom quick polls.
- AI Generated - This will display only AI-Generated quick polls.

- Word Cloud - This will display only Word Cloud quick polls.
- Saved Quick Polls - The majority of the page will be a list of the classroom's saved Quick Polls. You may click on any of them to be taken to the quick poll edit screen. The quick poll edit screen looks similar to the "Create" screen, but with the selected quick poll already populated into the relevant fields. From the edit screen, you can make any necessary adjustments before starting the quick poll.
"History" Tab
The "History" tab displays a record of all Quick Polls conducted in the classroom. It's particularly helpful if you need to rerun a poll you created but didn't save to the Library. The layout and functionality are nearly identical to the "Library" tab, so you can refer to that section of the article for further details.
