Overview
This article covers the "Settings" button, located on the left side of the Bottom Panel within the Playback Room. Below is a screenshot of its position, as well as the pop-up menu that opens upon selecting it:
When selected, the button opens a window where you can adjust personal preferences and. The window is organized with a column of tabs on the left. Selecting a tab updates the content displayed on the right side of the window.
At the bottom of the left-hand column, you’ll also see your organization’s current Engageli version.
In the following sections, we'll review every tab that appears within this window.
Audio & Video
The "Audio & Video" tab is automatically selected when you open the Settings window. From here, you can adjust your microphone, speaker, and webcam preferences.
Note: Changes made on this page only take effect after you click Save. For instance, if you choose a different webcam, other participants will not see the update until you save your settings.
Below, we'll describe each field that appears in the right-hand panel when viewing this tab:
- Webcam Preview - At the top of the panel, you'll see a preview of your webcam.
- Mirror my Video Preview - Use this toggle to turn webcam mirroring on or off. By default, Engageli enables mirroring, which flips your webcam preview to resemble a mirror image. If you'd rather view your video exactly as it's being captured, you can disable this setting. Keep in mind, this only affects your personal preview--other participants will always see your video as it's actually recorded.
- Camera - Use this dropdown to select your preferred webcam. When you choose a different device, your webcam preview will update to reflect that webcam's video feed.
-
Background Settings - Clicking this button will allow you to customize your webcam's virtual background image. You'll find the below options available to you:
- No Effects - Selecting this will turn off virtual background effects.
- Blur - This option will blur your background.
- Upload Image - Selecting this option will prompt you to upload an image from your computer to be used as your background. Image formats we support are JPG, JPEG, and PNG.
- Select Color - This checkerboard-looking option will allow you to set your background to a solid color. Once you click it, a color palette will appear, where you can select from a wide range of colors.
- Existing Images - These will be a collection of those provided by Engageli, by your organization, and any that you have uploaded yourself.
- Turn Camera On/Off - You can toggle this button to turn your webcam on or off.
- Microphone - Use this dropdown to select your preferred microphone. When you choose a difference device, the microphone audio indicator bar will immediately begin reflecting the audio coming from your new selection.
- Microphone Audio Indicator - Located to the right of the Microphone dropdown, this indicator reacts to your voice by moving in response to the volume it detects.
- Turn Noise Reduction On/Off - Background noise reduction is enabled by default. You can switch it on or off using this button. Note: This setting only affects software-based noise reduction built into the Engageli platform. If your microphone includes its own built-in noise reduction, that feature will function separately from this control.
- Turn Microphone On/Off - You can toggle this button to turn your microphone on or to mute it.
- Speaker - Use this dropdown to select your preferred speaker. When you choose a different device, you can immediately test it by clicking the "Test Speaker" button to the right of this dropdown.

- Cancel - To back out of your audio and video changes, click this button.
- Save - To save the changes to your audio and video preferences, click this button.

This setting is only useful when at least one other person is present in your Playback Room instance. For more details on how to use this feature, see the Enabling Sign Language Support article.
