Overview
This article will discuss the Present menu's "Quiz" option, available to class Instructors from the Live Classroom. Below is a screenshot that highlights the location of this option within the Present menu:
The "Quiz" tool lets Instructors conduct a quiz during the session. When you select this button, you'll be presented with the Quiz Creator pop-up screen. Below is an example of this screen:
On the very left of the screen are 2 tabs from which you can select: "Manual Creation"--selected by default--lets you build a new Quiz question set from the ground up; "Content" allows you to pick from existing Quizzes saved to the classroom's content area. We'll describe the details of both tabs.
Manual Creation
From the Manual Creation tab, you can create a new question set from scratch.
When this tab is active, the remainder of the window is broken into 2 parts: a left-hand panel and a right-hand panel.
The left-hand panel consists of the below fields:
- Quiz Name - Enter a name for the quiz question set if you plan to save it. This field is optional. If you leave it blank and choose to save the set, the system will automatically name it using the text of the first question.
-
Create with AI - This menu can be used to have questions automatically generated using AI. Below are the options seen within this menu:
-
Based On - Use this dropdown to select the source material you'd like the AI engine to use in creating the questions. You'll have several options:
- File Share - This will leverage any documents seen through the "File Share" view tab as the source and only the pages that have been flipped through during the specified time period.
-
Captions - Uses the captions recorded for the classroom during the selected time period. This option requires the "Allow live captions" setting to be enabled for the classroom.
Note: Engageli does not capture captions for conversations held at tables in Table Audio Mode. As a result, choosing this source will only generate questions based on discussions that occurred at the classroom level. - Captions and File - This will use both File Share and Captions as the source material.
- Number of Questions - Set the number of questions to be auto-generated.
-
Time Period - Use this dropdown to define the lookback window that the AI engine will use for reviewing source material. The available options are:
- Since the Session Began - Includes all source material from the start of the class session.
- From the Last 15 Mins - Restricts the source material to content from the past 15 minutes.
- From the Last 5 Mins - Restricts the source material to content from the past 5 minutes.
-
Advanced - This section provides additional options for customizing the AI-generated question set:
- Guide Your Quiz - An optional instruction field where you can give the AI engine specific guidance. For instance, if multiple topics were discussed recently but you want the questions to focus on one particular subject, you can enter that here to steer the questions in the desired direction.
- Generate - Once you’ve finished configuring your options, click this button to generate the questions. After a few seconds, the AI-generated questions will be appended to the existing list of questions.
-
Based On - Use this dropdown to select the source material you'd like the AI engine to use in creating the questions. You'll have several options:
- Questions - This list contains all the questions associated with the set. Click each item seen here to load its details within the right-hand panel. As you hover your cursor over each item in this list, you'll notice a trashcan icon, which you can click to delete the question, as well as a drag-and-drop ability to re-arrange the order of the questions.
- Add Question - Below the list of questions is this button, which you can click to manually add a new question to the set.
- Passing Score - Specify the percentage of questions a participant must answer correctly in order to pass the quiz.
The right-hand panel will display the content of the question that is currently selected from the left-hand panel. We'll describe all the fields seen within this panel:
-
Type - This dropdown allows you to set the question type. The options are:
- Single Choice - This type of question presents several choices, allowing only one option to be selected.
- Multiple Choice - This type of question presents several choices, allowing multiple options to be selected.
- Description - This optional field lets you provide a short scenario or additional context that supports the question. It's especially helpful when the question depends on specific circumstances that aren't obvious from the title alone. Adding a description gives participants the background they need before answering.
- Question - Type in the question here.
- Add Image - If you'd like for an image to appear alongside the question as participants answer it, you can click this to open a file explorer where you can select an image for upload. Alternatively, you drag-and-drop an image file into this area.
-
Answer Options - This area allows you to provide the answer options from which users would select. Answer options will display here as a list, with each entry containing the following properties:
- Answer Option - Provide the answer value here. For example, if the question is asking for the date of when a certain event occurred, a valid answer option might be "May 12, 1994". This is a text field, so you can key in whatever you'd like.
- Answer Explanation - This is an optional explanation you can attach to any answer choice. These notes help clarify why an option is correct or incorrect. They appear only when the Instructor enables result sharing, making them especially useful for reviewing the quiz after it's completed.
- Mark as Correct - Click the checkmark beside an answer to designate it as the correct choice. Since this is a Quiz question, at least one answer must be marked as correct.
- Delete Answer - Click this button to delete the answer option.
- Add Answer - Below the list of answer options is this link, which can be clicked to add an additional answer option. You may have up to 8 answer options for each question.
At the very bottom of the Manual Creation screen are 2 buttons:
- Save to Content - This bookmark icon can be toggled on or off. When it is toggled on, the quiz will be saved to the classroom's content area upon starting the activity.
- Start Quiz - Select this button to start the quiz activity. Doing so will create a "Quiz" view tab for all class participants.
Content
The Content tab lets you select from Quizzes that have already been saved to this classroom. When you open this tab, you'll see a list of those saved Quizzes, as shown in the example below:
After selecting a Quiz from the list, you'll be taken to a page that closely mirrors the Manual Creation view, but with the chosen Quiz and its questions already loaded. Most of the fields on this screen were explained earlier in the article, but the points below are specific to the Content tab:
- To return to the list of saved Polls, click "Back to Content" at the top of the left-hand panel.
- You can freely edit the question set, including adding or removing questions. While these edits will reflect when you start the quiz, they will not modify the originally saved Quiz. If you want to save your changes, toggle "Save to Content" at the bottom of the screen before starting the activity to create a new saved Quiz entry.
