Overview
This article explains how to present a PowerPoint slideshow on a single‑screen device using Engageli's screenshare feature, while keeping your speaker notes hidden from participants.
Engageli also allows you to share PowerPoint files (PPTX) through the File Share feature, which preserves speaker notes. Whenever possible, we recommend using File Share for the most seamless presentation experience. Because screensharing on a single monitor can feel disorienting at first, it's helpful to practice this workflow a few times before presenting live.
This guide assumes that your PowerPoint file is already open in Microsoft PowerPoint and that you are present in your live classroom.
- In PowerPoint, press ALT + F5 to start the slideshow. This method is required because it ensures that Presenter View is launched. PowerPoint will open two separate windows: a full‑screen slideshow (the window you will share with the class) and a Presenter View window containing your notes and navigation tools. Presenter View will automatically appear in the foreground. Below is an example of the Presenter View window that should appear immediately after pressing ALT + F5:
Note: If you are on macOS, press OPTION + ENTER. - Next, press WINDOWS + TAB to open the Task Viewer. Look for the Engageli window and select it to bring it to the front. The below screenshot is an example of what the Task Viewer looks like:
Note: If you are on macOS, press CTRL + UP ARROW to open the Mission Control screen, which is the macOS equivalent of the Windows Task Viewer. - From Engageli's bottom menu, select Present, then choose your preferred screensharing option (e.g., class share or table share). A pop‑up will appear prompting you to choose what to share. Select the Window tab, locate the tile showing the full‑screen slideshow, select it, and click Share. Your slideshow will now be visible to the class. Below is an example of the Window selection tab:
- To bring Presenter View back to the front, press WINDOWS + TAB again to bring up the Task Viewer and select it from the list of tiles. You can continue presenting from there. If you need to return to Engageli at any point, use WINDOWS + TAB to open the Task Viewer again.
Notes
Below are some important notes you may find helpful as you use this workflow:
- If you need to quickly end the slideshow, you can do so by hitting the ESC key while you have either the fullscreen slide or the Present View in focus.
- Although the Presenter View window starts off maximized, it can be resized.
