How to run a system test
In the lobby of a class users can test their system to ensure that audio, microphone, camera, screen sharing, connectivity, and PDF share are all functional and that Engageli will operate as expected.
- In the lobby of your class (before you join), click on the settings gear in the top right of your video.
- The Device Settings tab will expand from the right side of the window.
- Click on Test Your System below the speaker settings.
- Click Start Test to begin your system test.
- Run through all of the tests and select Yes or No in response to the prompts.
Once you've finished all of the tests you can Save Log or Send Results. If you encounter issues, you can save the log to to provide to support via a support ticket or send it to your administrator to review.
How to optimize for older hardware or slower networks
If you do experience issues with your system or network, here are some steps you can take to reduce the load to improve performance in Engageli.
- Check your internet connection
Other computers/devices using the same network can cause the network to slow down, which can result in audio and video issues. - Turn off your video
Turning off your video feed is an easy way to lower your computer’s CPU usage and improve network traffic. If needed, discuss with your instructor beforehand, but start your video only when you have to or leave it off for the duration of your class session. - Mute your audio
Your audio doesn’t use as much bandwidth as your video, but you can reduce your bandwidth by muting your audio when you’re not speaking. - Close other applications
To free up more network resources, close other applications and programs you do not need during your Engageli session. - Switch to Low bandwidth mode
Click the More Actions (three dots) menu at the bottom right of your screen during a live session, and then move the bandwidth slider to 'Low'. This mode will reduce system and network bandwidth by automatically turning off the video feeds of other learners at your table and when learners raise their hands at the podium. Video feeds in the gallery will still be visible in a merged view. The merged gallery view will save bandwidth by merging the gallery into one video feed for all learners instead of having individual video feeds for each learner.
For more information about Low Bandwidth mode, see this article.
How to use Engageli with network firewalls
Users can select and enable Compatibility Mode to help connect them to the classroom using a different communication method supported by firewalls.
Some reasons you may need to use compatibility mode are:
- You are unable to see or hear others video or audio during a session.
- Others are unable to see or hear your microphone or video.
- You are getting removed/kicked from a session unexpectedly.
- You are connecting to Engageli from a public or guest WiFi network.
- You experience any network or connection issues during a session.
Instructions for enabling Compatibility Mode as a learner or participant
- Click the More Actions (three dots) menu in the bottom right corner.
- Select Enable Compatibility Mode.
Instructions for enabling Compatibility Mode as the Instructor for all participants
- In the bottom left corner of a live class click on Settings.
- Select Class Configuration
- Toggle the switch next to Default to compatibility (RLM) mode to On.
- Click Save.
Note: Instructors can also enable this by default from the Common Configuration tab in the Admin Portal for the class.
