Interaction Controls are advanced controls that allow you to set and lock classroom settings for greater instructor control and class management. This article will explain the restrictions that are put in place when interaction controls is enabled. Interaction Controls can be toggled on a per-classroom basis by going to the classroom's "Common Configuration" tab via the "Admin Portal". There, you'll see a setting labeled "Interaction Controls". Below is a screenshot of the confirmation prompt that appears when enabling the setting:
When "Interaction Controls" is enabled, the below restrictions are applied:
- Staff Only mode is enabled (i.e. learners are restricted from joining class until an Instructor joins and removes the restriction. The restriction is automatically applied for every new class session).
- File uploads to the chat and whiteboard are disallowed.
- Anonymous chat messages are disallowed.
- Direct chat messages between learners are disallowed.
- Anonymous Q&A posts are disallowed.
- Chat and Q&A messages are filtered to remove inappropriate messages (English-only).
- Class recordings are set to private by default.
- Learners only see the Live Class option on the class login screen (i.e. Playback Room access is hidden).
- Learners will not able to join each others' Playback Rooms. Specifically, learners will not be able to generate invite links to share with other learners to allow them to join one another's rooms. Any links that may have been generated prior to Interaction Controls being enabled will be invalidated. Additionally, learners will no longer be able to mark their Playback Room as public.
- Learners will be unable to annotate on whiteboards by default.
- Learners are not allowed to navigate the pages of the active File Share when on the podium.
- Learners are prohibited from uploading files for their profile picture or avatar selection. However, those who uploaded a profile picture before Interaction Controls was enabled can continue using that image but will not be able to replace it with a new uploaded image.
- Learners are not allowed to post chat messages or Q&A entries anonymously.
- Learners are not allowed to download all chat messages or Q&A threads.
- Session recordings will truncate Learner names for privacy. For example, if the Learner joined the class as "John Richard Doe", their name will appear as "John D." in the session recording.
Note: Some of the Interaction Control options are only available in Engageli Version .52 or later.
