This article introduces the "3-Dots Menu" button, found near the right side of the Bottom Panel in the Live Classroom. This button is technically labeled "More Actions", but because it is represented by three horizontally arranged dots, it is nearly always referred to as the "3-Dots menu". The screenshot below highlights where the button is located:
Selecting his button will expand a menu containing a large number of options. Some example of things you can accomplish via the options in this menu are:
- Showing your webcam only to Instructors. Useful for participants who prefer additional privacy, allowing only class Instructors to view their webcam video.
- Switching between Instructor and TA role. Commonly used in classes with multiple Instructors who alternate presenting or facilitating.
- Mute all current and incoming learners. If you forgot to enable automatic muting for new arrivals, this option lets you quickly activate it while also muting learners already in the classroom.
The options will vary, depending on your role in the classroom, which we'll be sure to mention when applicable. We'll proceed with describing all the items that appear within this menu:
- Bandwidth - This small section allows you to adjust your bandwidth mode. Use the slider to choose between Low, Medium, and High. Medium is the default that users are set to upon joining the classroom. Please review the Overview of Bandwidth Modes article to learn more about the various modes.
- Auto-Adjust Bandwidth - Enable this option to let Engageli automatically adjust your bandwidth mode during the session. Be aware that adjustments may occur multiple times during the session as changes in CPU load or network conditions are detected.
- Apply Low-Bandwidth for All Learners - Enabling this option forces all Learners into Low bandwidth mode and locks them there. Only Instructors and TAs can access this option.
- Switch to Instructor Role - Choose this option to switch from the TA role to the Instructor role for the remainder of the session (or until you return to TA). This option is only available if you are rostered as an Instructor or were granted temporary Instructor role for the session.
- Switch to TA Role - Choose this option to switch from the Instructor role to the TA role for the remainder of the session (or until you return to Instructor). It is especially useful in sessions with more than two Instructors, where they need to take turns at the Instructor podium. Instructors can rotate by switching to TA, allowing another Instructor to assume the Instructor role.
- Mute Learners - Use this option to instantly mute all learner microphones. This is helpful when multiple mics are left on and background noise becomes distracting. Selecting this also enables the classroom's "Mute learners upon login" setting, so new arrivals are muted automatically without requiring repeated clicks. Note that this does not disable learner microphones--Learners can unmute themselves at any time. Likewise, you can trigger this option as many times as needed during the session. This option is only available to Instructors and TAs.
- Turn off Learners Cameras - Use this option to instantly turn off all learner webcams. Selecting this also enables the classroom's "Turn off cameras of learners upon login" setting, so new arrivals are will also have their webcams automatically turned off. Note that this does not disable learner webcams--Learners can turn them back on at any time. Likewise, you can trigger this option as many times as needed during the session. This option is only available to Instructors and TAs.
- Block Learner Mics - This toggle, when turned on, will block the mics of all Learners in the classroom until the end of the session. Learners will not be able to override this. This option is only available to Instructors and TAs.
-
Restrict Learner Cameras to Staff - This option is only available to Instructors. When toggled on, all Learner webcam feeds become viewable exclusively to staff. Learners will see only one another's avatars and their own webcam feeds. The control is intentionally subtle: staff are the only ones who can tell it's active, and Learners receive no indication that anything has changed. This classroom‑level toggle can also be paired with the individual learner restriction (found in each participant’s 3‑dots menu) to quickly limit camera visibility for all but a selected few participants. Below is the exact behavior when this classroom-level setting is enabled:
- "Hidden by staff" label - Staff members will see a small "hidden by staff" tag in the bottom‑left corner of every Learner's video.
- Unaffected self‑view - Each Learner continues to see their own webcam preview normally and is not notified that their video is hidden from peers.
- Avatar shown to peers - Learners see avatars for one another instead of webcam feeds, identical to the experience of peers simply having their cameras turned off.
- Allow Blocked Learners - If any participants have been blocked from the classroom, selecting this option will clear the list of blocked users, allowing them all back in. This option is only available to Instructors. Note: Blocked participants are automatically removed from the block list once the session ends or after 12 hours.
- Restrict Raise Hands - Toggling this on will disable the "Raise Hand" button for all Learners, effectively restricting them from using the Podium. Consequently, this also restricts them from attempting any actions that can only be done from the Podium, such as sharing their screen with the classroom. This feature is useful when Learners are raising their hands unnecessarily and causing disruptions. Only Instructors have access to this option.
- Restrict Class Access to Staff Only - Toggling this on will enable "Staff Only" mode for the current session. Any Learners who are already in the classroom when this mode is enabled will be sent to the class lobby, where they'll see a related message that classroom access is restricted to staff members. To allow Learners in, simply toggle this off. This option is only available to class Instructors.
-
Hide my Video from Learners - Participants can enable this feature to hide their webcam video from all Learners and TAs in the classroom. Its behavior differs slightly depending on your role:
- Learner or TA - If you are Learner or TA, enabling this will allow only staff to see your webcam video. All Learners will see your profile picture instead. This is ideal if you want to maintain your privacy, but need to ensure that staff members can see their webcam so they know that you are present and paying attention.
- Instructor - If you are an Instructor, enabling this will cause your portrait to be hidden from the podium area for Learners and TAs. If there is another Instructor present, they will still see your video as usual. This is commonly used in sessions with two Instructors--one presenting and the other acting as a producer or moderator. The producer/moderator typically enables this option to avoid distracting participants with a second Instructor who is not actively leading the class.
- Override Low Capacity Mode - If the system has placed you into Low Capacity Mode, you can toggle this on to bypass it. This option only appears if you are in Low Capacity Mode. To learn more about Low Capacity Mode, please review this article.
- Enable Compatibility Mode - Toggle this to turn compatibility mode on or off.
- Open Overlay Gallery - Toggle this to open or close the overlay gallery.
- Get Class Link - Select this to open a pop-up where you can copy a link to the classroom that can be shared with others. You'll be able to copy the authenticated link or the guest learner link. This is only available to class Instructors.
