Overview
When you start a screenshare, your browser should display a pop‑up window prompting you to choose the tab, window, or screen you want to share. Here's an example of what that selection window looks like in Chrome:
If you try to share your screen but receive an error such as "You have canceled your screen share" (or something similar) and the pop‑up never appears, one of the following issues may be the cause.
Browser IT Policy Restrictions
If your device is managed by your organization, your browser may have policies in place that block screen sharing.
To check for Chrome policies, enter the below into your address bar:
chrome://policyFor Edge or Brave, replace "chrome" with "edge" or "brave" to access the equivalent page.
If the policy page lists any entries containing the word "ScreenCapture", your organization may be restricting screen sharing. Below is an example of a Chrome policy page showing the presence of "ScreenCaptureAllowed" and "ScreenCaptureAllowedByOrigins" entries.
In this case, you'll need to contact your IT team and request that Engageli's domain and its subdomains be added to the list of allowed domains for screen capture. Specifically, add the below entry:
*.engageli.comEngageli Classroom Loading Inside an LMS iframe
If you access Engageli through your LMS and the classroom loads inside the LMS page instead of opening in a new browser tab, this can interfere with several features--including screensharing.
Some Engageli pages can be framed, but most should not be. Below are examples of the Engageli classroom lobby loading inside Moodle and Canvas pages.
Moodle:
Canvas:
If your Engageli classroom is loading inside your LMS rather than opening in its own tab, the link configuration needs to be updated. You can adjust this yourself (if you have the necessary permissions) or ask your organization's administrator to make the change. Although some institutions intentionally choose to load Engageli within the LMS page, this setup can interfere with certain features and prevent them from working correctly.
To clarify, this is not an issue Engageli can fix. These link configurations are controlled entirely by the partner from within their LMS.
Using a Mobile Device
Screensharing is not supported on mobile devices. This applies to both the Engageli mobile app and mobile browsers on iOS and Android.
If you need to share your screen, you'll need to join from a laptop or desktop computer.
