Introduction
This article explains how to use your iPad as a video source while joining an Engageli classroom from your Mac. Although connecting an iPad to a Windows PC may be possible, this guide focuses on Mac devices because they use a native macOS workflow that doesn't require additional software.
The primary scenario for this setup is when you want to show others what you're doing on your iPad while your Mac remains your main device in the Engageli session. For instance, if you're in an Engageli classroom and want to show an iOS app installed on your iPad, you can connect the iPad to your Mac, open the app (to draw, notate, etc), start a screenshare in Engageli, and select the iPad as the screen to share within the live classroom.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow the below instructions to use your iPad as a video source with your Mac.
- Connect your iPad to your Mac with a USB-C or Lightning cable.
- Unlock your iPad and tap "Trust This Computer" if prompted.
- Open "QuickTime Player" on your Mac.
- Choose "File" > "New Movie Recording".
- Next to the red "Record" button, click the small down arrow.
- Under the "Screen" section, select your iPad, as shown in the below example screenshot:
- Your iPad's screen will immediately appear in the QuickTime window.
From here, you can start a screen share in Engageli and select the QuickTime window as your shared source. There's no need to click Record in QuickTime unless you specifically want to capture the screen; the QuickTime window alone can serve as your video source for the screen share.
